Snapshot 7 adds calcite blocks, sift secret, and Flurry disc

The latest test build for Java Edition marks the end of gameplay additions for version 26.4. According to minecraft.net, Snapshot 7 delivers a fresh music disc alongside multiple new blocks, all designed to give players more creative building options before the update ships. The snapshot is available through the standard launcher installation method, though Mojang warns that testing versions can corrupt worlds, so backing up saves beforehand remains essential.

Calcite receives its first dedicated block variants in this snapshot. Releasebot's coverage notes that the new calcite-based blocks join the game's growing roster of building materials. Pixel86 highlighted the arrival of over ten new blocks in total, with calcite bricks forming the centerpiece of the visual additions. These blocks follow Minecraft's established pattern of offering multiple variants and stonecutter recipes, giving builders flexibility in how they incorporate them into structures.

A secret block tied to the sift dimension has surfaced in the snapshot. Pixel86 reported discovering a hidden block from the sift—specifically chiseled soulshale—embedded within the game files. This discovery fuels community speculation about the sift dimension's eventual arrival, as players have long anticipated this new area. The presence of sift-related blocks in test builds suggests Mojang is preparing content for a future update centred on that dimension.

The snapshot introduces Flurry, a new music disc that players can collect and play. Minecraft.net confirmed the disc's inclusion as part of the snapshot's final gameplay push. Pixel86's video featured the disc's audio, which community members in the comments compared to the opening theme of Minecraft Live events, suggesting an atmospheric or celebratory tone.

Technical and accessibility work continues

Beyond new blocks and music, the snapshot addresses rendering and accessibility. Minecraft.net noted that developers have temporarily switched back to testing both Vulkan and OpenGL graphics backends after making significant changes to rendering code. This dual-backend testing will be reverted in a future snapshot once sufficient feedback arrives. Additionally, this snapshot represents the first step toward making gameplay screens more accessible, with expanded keyboard navigation and narration support now available for testing.

The Realms interface has also received updates, though specific details remain limited in available coverage. Releasebot mentioned these changes as part of the broader snapshot but did not elaborate on their nature.

Creator and player reaction

Content creators have greeted the snapshot with enthusiasm, particularly around the sift dimension hints. Pixel86's audience expressed excitement about the sift's approach, with comments describing it as confirmation that the dimension update draws near. Russian creator Циан (Cyan) emphasised the calcite blocks as long-overdue additions, with viewers agreeing that these variants should have arrived earlier in the game's development. Community members also noted that many of the new blocks function as reskins of existing materials—such as calcite bricks mirroring tufa bricks—though this has not dampened overall enthusiasm for expanded building options. Some players expressed mild frustration with the pace of block additions, joking that the game has become a 'blocks update' with each snapshot bringing primarily new variants rather than entirely new mechanics.
