Free Minecraft Movie Screening Comes to Canadian Cineplex on Nov 14
Cineplex's annual Community Day returns November 14 with free screenings of A Minecraft Movie alongside three other family films, plus free gaming at partner venues across Canada.
Minecraft News
Cineplex is marking its 14th annual Community Day on Saturday, November 14, bringing together free entertainment and charitable giving across Canada. The centrepiece for Minecraft fans will be a screening of A Minecraft Movie, one of four family-friendly films showing at participating theatres from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. local time. The other titles, according to todocanada.ca, are The LEGO Movie, Paddington 2, and Tom & Jerry—all produced through Warner Bros. Discovery.
Tickets are available only in theatres on the day itself, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance online bookings. Concession items including regular popcorn, drinks, and select sweets cost just $3 each plus tax until 11 a.m., making the morning an affordable outing for families.
Beyond cinema, the event extends to gaming venues across the country. XSCAPE locations offer 30 minutes of free non-redemption gaming via complimentary playcards or tokens. The Rec Room and Playdium, which dailyhive.com notes are also participating, provide one-hour free game bands between 9 and 11 a.m., with select food items available for $3 each until noon.

Giving Back Through Every Purchase
The real purpose behind Community Day is fundraising for BGC Canada, an organisation operating in over 665 locations nationwide that provides support and programmes for children and young people. Throughout November 14, Cineplex will donate $1 from every food, beverage, and gaming purchase—including XSCAPE playcards and game band reloads—to the charity. According to finance.yahoo.com, Cineplex has already donated more than $863,000 to BGC Canada through previous Community Day events.
Bill Walker, CEO of Cineplex, described the event as reflecting the company's core values. Curiocity.com quoted him saying the day brings Canadians together through entertainment whilst supporting the vital work BGC Canada does for families and young people.
What Players Are Saying
Community response to the announcement has been mixed. Many players and families expressed enthusiasm about the free Minecraft Movie screening, with several noting it's a rare opportunity to see the film without cost. However, some commenters raised concerns about the early morning timing and limited availability on a first-come basis, worrying that popular showtimes might fill up quickly at busy theatres. A few viewers questioned whether the film itself would be worth the trip, with opinions split between those excited about the Minecraft adaptation and sceptics who remain unconvinced by the project. Others appreciated the broader charitable angle, viewing the event as a worthwhile way to support youth programmes in their communities.
